| Bottle-feeding Muji |
In the past 24 hours I've considered a lot of things and came to the conclusion that we might be able to pull this off. Zon is a graduate school student right now, so she's home intermittently throughout the day (and summer vacation is about a week away) and I'm home for about an hour at lunch every day. If we can get past these first few weeks of feeding 6-8 times a day, it should be a lot easier after that.
Luckily we found these puppies on a Saturday and we've both had all day Sunday to try to figure things out. I've been Googling everything there is to know about raising abandoned puppies and it looks doable.
Despite not being able to sleep for 3 straight hours all day, Zon and I have been pretty productive. We got tired of saying "Do you want to feed the girl or the boy?" so we went ahead and named them. Ladies and Gents, meet Muji (black female) and Kovy (brown/black male).

Besides naming them, we came to a very important decision: we're keeping them!!
After a long talk with my mom about the responsibilities, frustrations, and difficulties that come with raising a puppy, I sat down with Zon (who has never raised any animal besides fish) and told her "They will pee on the floor. They will poop on the floor. They will chew on everything. They will bark. They will cry. They will wake us up. All of this, I promise you will happen. Do you still want to keep them?" And her response was "Of course, why else would we have named them?" (She's obviously fallen in love with them already. How can you blame her?)
I think that understanding what lies in our future is a giant step towards success in raising happy, healthy dogs. Many dog owners probably don't really consider the bad things (because they're so cute!) and end up taking their dogs to a shelter or abandoning them on the street because of the unexpected stress.
Only a few weeks ago I was chatting with a friend about how I would never get a dog because it doesn't fit my lifestyle right now. But as they say, when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade.
And now I've got 2 pups of lemonade:
